During your study, our Biostatisticians ensure that data is monitored centrally to identify outliers and systematic errors and enable corrective and preventive actions before data integrity is at risk. Assistance in determining the impact of decisions made during your study on the evaluation is further provided, to ensure that all collected data can be evaluated as expected. A final data review prior to the analysis further ensures that all pre-specified analyses can be conducted as desired, and necessary changes are prospectively implemented.

What’s the value of your company?
Valuation of a company is almost always hard. Sentiments play a role, but also the fact that there are many alternative ways to look at the value of a company. This is of course even more true if you run a start-up as the past offers little foundation to determine future performance and worth. But for all growth stages valuation is immensely important since external financing is in most cases the only way to grow. Therefore, it’s necessary that you understand how valuation works, that you know how best to prepare for negotiations and how to determine the conditions. This is what this workshop offers. It helps create a better understanding of company valuation and investment terms as well as the process to reach an investment deal.

Understanding the other site of the table
Investors and entrepreneurs both want a deal that makes them happy. In order to have fruitful discussions about the valuation of your company, it’s therefore important for both sides of the table to have a good understanding of each other’s perspective. What does an investor look for in a business case? What is expected from you as an entrepreneur? But also, what can you expect from an investor? Now during the deal making phase, but also later on as a shareholder in your company? Instead of looking for a bigger slice of the pie, the goal should be to make the pie bigger for everyone at the table.

Legal issues regarding the participation of investors
When an investor and entrepreneur cooperate, in principle, they have the same objectives. But that’s not the case on all aspects of the cooperation. For instance regarding an exit or the relationship between the management board and the general meeting of shareholders. These are some of the most important issues in the cooperation between an entrepreneur and an investor. Thorough thought on these issues upfront contribute to a smooth cooperation between entrepreneur and an investor.

It is free of charge, but registration is needed. There is a maximum of 16 participants. And to prepare for this wokshop we will ask you to answer some questions in advance.

Business models aren’t valid forever. Your own direction changes over time, the world around you changes and sometimes things develop differently from what you had expected. What every company needs is a periodical check-up of its business model. Done by critical thinkers with a wealth of experience in where business models can go wrong and lead to failure. The earlier you can see the faults in you business model the better you can prepare to avoid the pitfalls. Success favours those who are prepared!

In this workshop we will lead you through a number of pitfalls of, especially digital, innovations that can effectively make you fail. In this way, we help you to avoid these pitfalls yourself and become successful. We will share examples about innovations that got stuck and how entrepreneurs got back on track. And offer advice on your situation!

We conclude with a business model check up of your idea and organisation: How strong is your organization when it comes to innovation and which developments can strengthen or undermine your idea? We combine everything we have shared to create a mini action plan for you.

A participant’s feedback from previous workshop: “I did not expect the hands-on and practical approach the workshop took, I have found it very useful and was happy that my business case could get attention.”

The workshop is given by two innovators of InnoValor, Claudia Vermeulen and Liesbeth Hijink. Afterwards, you will receive a trend book with digital trends and the tools we have worked with.

StartUp Nijmegen and the municipality of Nijmegen are joining forces again. On 22 May 2022, from 12:00 to 17:00, the second edition of the Test Market will be organised at the Nijmegen Grand Market as part of the Action Plan Binnenstad. With the Test-market, StartUp Nijmegen contributes to the entrepreneurial climate of Nijmegen. The Test Market is meant to stimulate innovation and to give starting entrepreneurs the opportunity to test, research and validate their product or service with a broad audience.

Last year was a great success: 17 different starting entrepreneurs participated in the market. With a lot of new insights, inspiration and enthusiasm the participants went home again. What did it look like last year? See the photos below for an impression.

To make this edition as successful as last year, StartUp Nijmegen is still looking for new entrepreneurs who want to participate in the second edition of the Test market. The only condition to participate is that there is innovation or sustainability related to your business. From StartUp Nijmegen, we offer a free market stall, unique visitors, extra visibility, other practicalities and a unique test for your product or service. The design of the stall is completely free: the more eye-catching, the better. Interested? Then sign up via tessa@startupnijmegen.nl.

Not an entrepreneur but enthusiastic? Then we would like to see you again as a visitor of the Test market on 22 May 2022.

Speech recognition has been around for a while now and has made great strides. Think of Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa, which are used by millions of people every day. Yet speech recognition still works best when spoken clearly or in a simple or narrow specialised domain. The challenge is to take this even further, so that speech recognition also works when the circumstances are more difficult. Think for example of spoken dialect where the training possibilities of the AI are often limited by the smaller data sets. Or in cases of a speech impediment after a stroke, for example. Another new direction is the detection of emotion in speech and using this to better recognise the context of what is being said.

Within the Radboud University and Radboudumc, together with Telecats, work is being done on more advanced forms of speech recognition in which atypical speech is also better recognised. For this podcast we talk to:

  • Henk van den Heuvel (Radboud University CLST)
  • Sandra van Dulmen (Radboudumc)
  • Arjan van Hessen (Telecats)
The podcast is moderated by Martijn Kriens (Briskr)
