During Preclinical Drug discovery Course, you will learn about all major aspects of the preclinical stages of modern drug discovery, and challenges and opportunities in pharmaceutical R&D with a unique combination of lectures by academic and industry experts.
The course will be organized jointly by Radboud University (Nijmegen), Pivot Park Life Science campus (Oss) and HAN University of Applied Sciences (Nijmegen). The content of the lectures is designed by academic and industry experts in the field of early drug discovery and the course is a combination of lectures, seminars, group assignments and visits to companies active in pharmaceutical R&D located on Pivot Park Life Science Campus.
After successful completion of this course you will understand how drugs are discovered and developed, the different phases, in general terms, of drugs discovery, the basic principles of medicinal chemistry, and the importance of factors for a molecule to become a drug.
It’s more important than ever for laboratories to be at the forefront of sustainability issues because labs consume significantly more energy and water and generate more waste than offices or households.
In this training, arm yourself with the knowledge and tools you need to make your lab greener, such as reducing consumption of resources and waste. Additionally, by adopting the 12 Principles of Green Chemistry, you will not only create a safer work environment with less hazardous reagents, but also reduce your lab’s carbon footprint. “Zij zijn groot en ik is klein en dat is niet eerlijk!” Kent u deze lijfspreuk van het kuiken Calimero nog? Nooit zat het hem eens mee, terwijl het zijn grote vrienden voor de wind ging. Zo lijkt het soms ook te zijn met octrooieren. Grote partijen hebben een dikke portemonnee om hun intellectueel eigendom optimaal te beschermen. En de kleine Calimero’s dan? Vanaf 1 april komt het European Patent Office (EPO) kleinere bedrijven tegemoet met een korting op een aantal tarieven.
MICRO-ENTITEIT: KORTING VOOR DE ALLERKLEINSTEN
Het EPO kende altijd al drie entiteiten: small, medium en large. Daar komt nu de micro-entiteit bij. Onder micro vallen bedrijven met minder dan tien mensen in dienst en een omzet tot 2 miljoen per jaar. De korting betreft 30% op de meest voorkomende taksen in de Europese verleningsprocedure en dat maakt het interessant.
KOSTEN TIJDENS DE VERLENINGSPROCEDURE
De procedure om een octrooi verleend te krijgen beslaat meerdere jaren en bestaat uit verschillende fasen. Aan het begin van iedere fase moet een taks worden betaald. Daarnaast is er nog een jaarlijkse taks voor instandhouding. Ik zet de belangrijkste taksen voor u op een rij met het volle tarief en daarnaast de korting.
MEER NODIG DAN KORTING
Het EPO geeft korting om het octrooisysteem toegankelijker te maken voor kleinere bedrijven, zoals start-ups. De drempel wordt verlaagd. Calimero wordt aangemoedigd om mee te doen. We weten immers dat bedrijven met octrooien succesvoller en kansrijker zijn dan bedrijven zonder bescherming voor hun innovaties.
Maar…een octrooiaanvraag op laten stellen en tot octrooi laten komen kost nog steeds een aardige som. Naast de kosten voor taksen zijn er bijvoorbeeld ook kosten voor uw octrooigemachtigde, vertaalkosten, en andere administratieve kosten die u zult moeten begroten. Reken voor een unitair octrooi al snel op zo’n €25.000. Dit zijn kosten die u gelukkig niet allemaal in een keer afrekent. Bovendien betaalt het zichzelf terug, doordat u twintig jaar het alleenrecht hebt om geld te verdienen met uw innovatie. Het vergt alleen wel eerst een investering. Hoewel het EPO dus een mooie tegemoetkoming biedt – zo’n 10% op de totale kosten – zal het wel of niet aanvragen van een octrooi niet afhangen van deze korting.
OOK CALIMERO’S KUNNEN OCTROOIEREN
Het is helemaal geen schande om een Calimero te zijn tussen alle grote kippen. Kleine kuikens groeien groot. Ze kunnen waardevolle innovaties op de markt brengen en die goed beschermen met een octrooi. Zolang u als ondernemer goed uw huiswerk doet en financieel gezonde beslissingen opneemt in uw businessplan, is een octrooi zeker haalbaar. De korting van het EPO is daarbij niet de basis, maar is uiteraard wel mooi meegenomen.
